Allegan County, MI – Winter weather is wreaking havoc on Allegan County roads, with icy conditions and high winds causing numerous accidents. Deputies worked overnight to assist with crashes, including several semi-truck incidents along I-196 near the 24-mile marker.
According to the Allegan County Sheriff’s Office, poor visibility and slick roads have resulted in vehicles sliding off the roadway. Fallen trees and powerlines are also contributing to dangerous conditions across the area. Authorities are urging drivers to avoid non-essential travel until weather improves.
Blowing snow and freezing temperatures are making cleanup efforts challenging. Road crews are working to clear major highways, but secondary roads remain hazardous. Residents with appointments at Allegan County Offices are being asked to reschedule, as offices are closed for the day.
The Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to reduce speed, leave extra space between vehicles, and prepare for extended travel times. Those who must drive should carry emergency supplies and remain vigilant.
