Northern Indiana – A winter weather advisory has been issued for Northern Indiana, warning of significant snowfall this weekend.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory takes effect at 7 p.m. Saturday and will last until 1 a.m. Monday. Forecasters expect snow accumulations of 3 to 6 inches across the region, with isolated areas potentially seeing higher totals. Blowing snow may also create hazardous travel conditions Sunday, as north winds could gust between 20 to 25 mph.

Roadways, bridges, and overpasses are likely to become slick and snow-covered, increasing the risk of accidents. Drivers are urged to slow down and exercise caution. Officials recommend checking the latest road conditions by calling 511 before traveling.

Temperatures are expected to remain below freezing throughout the advisory period, further contributing to icy surfaces. The heaviest snowfall is anticipated Sunday afternoon, making outdoor activities and travel challenging.

Residents should prepare for delays and consider postponing non-essential travel. Ensure vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies, including blankets, flashlights, and food.
