Binghamton, NY – A powerful lake effect snow event is set to impact central New York, bringing heavy snowfall through the weekend. Areas in Oneida, Madison, and Onondaga counties could see up to 18 inches of snow by Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service, lake effect snow will intensify Thursday evening as a strong cold front moves in. Snow bands will shift south overnight, affecting the I-90 corridor before lifting north again Friday afternoon. Snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour are possible.

Saturday will bring widespread snow across the region, with accumulations of 2 to 5 inches expected. By Sunday, snow will transition to a wintry mix before changing back to snow as a strong cold front moves through. Flash freezing could create hazardous road conditions.

Residents should prepare for dangerous travel and rapidly changing conditions. Stay updated with the latest weather alerts and advisories.
