Thomas, WV – Eastern Tucker County residents are facing hazardous winter weather as snow and strong winds persist through Thursday morning.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Eastern Time. An additional inch of snow is expected, with wind gusts reaching 45 mph. These conditions are creating near whiteout visibility in higher elevations, such as Canaan Valley, Davis, and Thomas.
Roads in the area are becoming icy and slick, raising concerns for drivers during the morning commute. The NWS advises caution while driving and encourages reducing speed on snow-covered roads. Blowing snow and gusty winds may also damage power lines and trees, increasing the risk of outages.
Officials urge pedestrians to exercise caution when stepping outdoors, as sidewalks and stairs may be slippery. High elevations will experience the greatest accumulation and most severe travel impacts.
Drivers and residents should prepare for hazardous conditions and avoid unnecessary travel. Updates and advisories will continue as the situation develops.
