Detroit, MI – A winter storm is set to impact Michigan this weekend, bringing snow, ice, and strong winds that could create hazardous travel conditions. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for much of Southeast Michigan from 4 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, followed by a Winter Storm Watch from Saturday evening through Sunday evening.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Detroit, snowfall totals will vary across the region. Areas along and south of the M-59 corridor, including Detroit, Ann Arbor, and Monroe, can expect 1 to 3 inches of snow, with sleet and freezing rain possible. Further north, cities like Flint, Saginaw, and Port Huron may receive 3 to 5 inches of snow Saturday, followed by heavier accumulations of up to 8 inches by Sunday.

Winds could reach 40 mph Sunday afternoon, potentially causing blowing snow and reduced visibility. Freezing rain may also lead to icy road conditions, especially in areas along and north of I-69.

Travel is expected to be hazardous, especially Saturday night into Sunday. Motorists should plan for slower commutes and monitor updates from MDOT’s Michigan Drive Map for real-time road conditions.

Residents are advised to prepare for possible power outages and limit unnecessary travel. The storm will begin tapering off by Sunday evening.
