Charleston, WV – A winter weather advisory has been issued for Kentucky and West Virginia, with snowfall expected to impact travel.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will be in effect from 1 a.m. Sunday to 5 a.m. Monday. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are predicted for northeastern Kentucky, while portions of central and southern West Virginia could see 3 to 5 inches. Affected areas include Charleston, Huntington, Beckley, and Parkersburg.

Snowfall will create slippery road conditions, especially on untreated surfaces. The advisory warns drivers to reduce speed and exercise caution during travel. Officials urge residents to monitor road conditions through their state’s 511 traffic service or online roadway portals.

The weather service advises planning for delays and making use of emergency preparedness kits if traveling is unavoidable. Updates will be provided on the National Weather Service website and its social media platforms.

Local agencies are preparing for snow removal operations and will prioritize major highways and heavily trafficked areas. Residents are encouraged to stay home if conditions worsen and to check on vulnerable neighbors during the weather event.
