Reno, NV – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for portions of Northern California and Western Nevada, with snowfall expected to create hazardous road conditions starting Thursday evening and continuing through Friday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reports that snow accumulations of up to 3 inches are likely above 5,000 feet in areas surrounding Reno, Carson City, and Minden, with rain and snow mixes possible in lower valleys. Higher accumulations of up to 10 inches are forecast above 6,500 feet in the Greater Lake Tahoe Area and Mono County. These conditions could disrupt the Friday morning and evening commutes.
The advisory is in effect for Lassen, Eastern Plumas, and Eastern Sierra counties from 7 p.m. Thursday to 1 p.m. Friday, while Lake Tahoe and Mono County are under advisory from midnight to 7 p.m. Friday.
Drivers are urged to slow down and exercise caution, as slippery roads and low visibility are expected. Up-to-date road conditions can be obtained by dialing 511.
