Salt Lake City, UT – A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the Wasatch Mountains and Western Uinta Mountains, effective from 3 p.m. Friday to 3 p.m. Saturday, with significant snowfall and hazardous travel conditions anticipated.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), the Wasatch Mountains are forecast to receive between 6 and 12 inches of snow, with locally higher totals in areas such as the upper Cottonwoods. The Western Uinta Mountains are expected to see 4 to 8 inches of snowfall, with accumulation heaviest in the western portions of the range.
The advisory warns of challenging winter driving conditions on major routes, including Sardine Canyon, Parleys Canyon, Big Cottonwood Canyon, Little Cottonwood Canyon, and Mirror Lake Highway. Snowfall rates could exceed 1 inch per hour at times, particularly Friday evening through Saturday morning.
Travelers are urged to slow down and exercise caution. Up-to-date road conditions can be accessed through the Utah Department of Transportation at udottraffic.utah.gov.
