Sacramento, CA – A Winter Weather Advisory is set to take effect in Northern California from 4 a.m. Wednesday through 4 p.m. Thursday, bringing heavy snowfall to elevations above 5,000 feet.

According to the National Weather Service Sacramento, 3 to 7 inches of snow are expected between 5,000 and 6,000 feet, while 10 to 16 inches could accumulate at higher elevations. The heaviest snowfall is forecast south of Interstate 80, where hazardous travel conditions will persist through the Wednesday and Thursday commutes.

Officials warn of snow-covered roads, slippery surfaces, and reduced visibility, making travel difficult. Drivers are urged to check road conditions at quickmap.dot.ca.gov before heading out. Chain controls may be in effect for mountain passes.

This system is expected to significantly impact the Sierra Nevada region, with snowfall tapering off by Thursday afternoon. Travelers should carry emergency supplies, allow extra travel time, and exercise caution when driving in affected areas.
