Fort Wayne, IN – A winter weather advisory has been issued for portions of northern Indiana, southwest Michigan, and northwest Ohio, with freezing rain expected to create hazardous road conditions overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Northern Indiana, the advisory is in effect from 7 p.m. EST Wednesday until 10 a.m. EST Thursday. Ice accumulations between five hundredths and one-tenth of an inch are expected, which could lead to slick roads and potential power outages.

Travel conditions may become difficult, especially during the Thursday morning commute. Areas including Elkhart, Fort Wayne, South Bend, and Lima, Ohio, are among those expected to see the most impact. Forecasters note that some locations, particularly from White County to Jay County in Indiana, may see slightly lower ice totals if temperatures rise above freezing after 1 a.m.

Residents are advised to use caution when traveling, as icy sidewalks, driveways, and roads may lead to falls or accidents. Drivers should reduce speeds and allow extra travel time. For the latest road conditions, dial 511 in your state.
