Kansas City, MO – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect until 6 p.m. Wednesday, with freezing rain expected to create hazardous road conditions along I-70 and surrounding areas. Travelers should prepare for slick roads and delays through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, ice accumulations up to a tenth of an inch are likely, particularly north of Highway 36. Freezing drizzle will persist into the early hours of Thursday before tapering off. Bridges, overpasses, and untreated roads will be especially dangerous.

Thursday’s forecast brings gradual clearing, with highs reaching the mid-40s. However, another system could bring rain Friday night into Saturday. Next week, temperatures will drop again, with snow chances increasing Monday into Tuesday.

Drivers should allow extra travel time and check for road updates via MoDOT’s traveler site. Those commuting Thursday morning should remain cautious as refreezing is possible on untreated surfaces.
