According to the National Weather Service, light freezing rain has created a thin glaze of ice on untreated roads, sidewalks, and driveways. Light snow is also contributing to slick travel conditions. The advisory impacts the Providence Metro area and towns in northeastern Connecticut such as Putnam and Coventry.
Drivers are urged to slow down and allow extra time for their morning commute. Officials recommend extra caution when stepping outside, as icy surfaces can lead to falls. Precipitation is expected to transition to rain later in the morning as temperatures rise.
