Binghamton, NY – Lake effect snow will continue to blanket central New York through Wednesday, creating hazardous travel conditions and reducing visibility. Accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are expected today, with heavier snow showers possible Wednesday evening.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will increase across the region late tonight into early Wednesday. Gusty winds up to 32 mph could exacerbate travel difficulties, particularly along the New York Thruway. Drivers should remain alert and plan extra travel time, especially during the morning and evening commutes.

Tonight, temperatures will drop to 19°F under mostly cloudy skies, with a slight chance of lingering snow showers. Wednesday will see highs around 34°F, with snow showers becoming widespread by the afternoon and continuing into the evening. Accumulations could reach up to 2 inches by the end of the day.

Another system is expected Thursday, bringing additional snow and gusty winds. The heaviest snow will likely affect areas north of the Thruway, but Binghamton will also see accumulations of several inches. Highs on Thursday will hover near 31°F, with winds gusting up to 32 mph, creating wind chills in the teens.

The extended forecast indicates a gradual clearing by Saturday, but snow showers will linger into Friday. Daytime highs will range from the upper 20s to low 30s, while overnight lows drop into the teens.

Residents are urged to monitor updates and prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility throughout the week. Drivers should keep emergency kits in their vehicles and avoid unnecessary travel during peak snow hours.
