Buffalo, NY – Residents across western New York are urged to prepare for lake-effect snow impacting visibility and road conditions through Wednesday morning. Key areas include Rochester, Buffalo, and the southern tier, where hazardous travel is likely.

According to the National Weather Service, snow showers will intensify Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, with accumulations between 2 to 4 inches expected. Areas near I-90, especially southeast of Lake Ontario and Lake Erie, could face icy roads and reduced visibility during the morning commute. Wind gusts up to 25 mph may create blowing snow, further complicating travel.

Low-pressure conditions will move northward Wednesday afternoon, bringing additional widespread snow and wind through Thursday. Drivers should exercise caution, particularly on heavily traveled routes, and allow extra time to reach their destinations. Power outages are also possible in rural areas as tree limbs may snap under the weight of snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a Lake Effect Snow Warning through 7 p.m. Tuesday, followed by winter weather advisories into Wednesday. High temperatures will hover near 36°F Wednesday, dropping to a low of 22°F at night. Thursday will see similar patterns, with daytime highs near 38°F, paired with high winds.

Looking ahead, scattered snow showers are likely into the weekend. Friday may bring a brief reprieve, with partly sunny skies, before more snow returns Saturday.

Residents are encouraged to monitor weather updates, avoid unnecessary travel during peak snow periods, and stay prepared for rapidly changing conditions.
