Duluth, MN – Drivers across northwest Wisconsin could face slick, snow-covered roads Saturday as lake effect snow intensifies along the South Shore, particularly near Ashland and Hurley. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Ashland and Bayfield Counties through noon Sunday, with snowfall totals of 2–6 inches expected in key travel corridors like US-2 and WI-13.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, lake-enhanced snow bands may bring rates over 1 inch per hour, especially Saturday evening, with localized accumulations reaching 5 inches or more near Hurley. These brief but intense bursts could dramatically reduce visibility and create rapidly deteriorating road conditions.

Key towns at risk include Ashland, Ironwood, and Phillips, with snowfall tapering early Sunday. Roadways like WI-77 and US-63 could also be impacted, especially in areas downwind of Lake Superior. Motorists are urged to delay non-essential travel, check 511 Wisconsin for real-time updates, and be prepared for sudden whiteout conditions.

Snowfall is expected to ease by midday Sunday, but additional advisories are possible if lake effect bands persist longer than expected.
