Buffalo, NY – A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for much of western New York, with significant snowfall expected from late Sunday night through Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) warns of heavy lake effect snow across multiple counties, including Erie, Wyoming, and Chautauqua.

According to the NWS, snowfall will likely accumulate heavily in persistent lake-effect snow bands, significantly impacting visibility and road conditions. The heaviest snowfall is expected to develop in the Buffalo Southtowns and southern Genesee County on Monday.

The Eastern Lake Ontario region, including Oswego and Jefferson Counties, could experience the most prolonged snowfall, starting Monday afternoon. While exact snow totals remain uncertain, forecasters anticipate multiple periods of intense snowfall, reducing visibility to near zero at times.

Travelers should plan for hazardous road conditions and poor visibility through midweek. Residents are urged to prepare for rapid weather changes and monitor updates.

The storm’s intensity highlights the unpredictable nature of lake-effect snow, with conditions potentially varying drastically over short distances.
