Morristown, TN – East Tennessee residents should prepare for heavy snowfall and gusty winds as a winter storm approaches Sunday.
The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Winter Storm Watch from Sunday morning through Monday morning. Accumulations of 3 to 5 inches are expected in most areas, with 6 to 8 inches possible in higher elevations of the Smoky Mountains. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph, increasing the risk of dangerous travel conditions.
According to the NWS, snowfall will begin early Sunday and continue overnight, creating slippery roads and potentially impacting the Monday morning commute. Areas affected include Johnson, Unicoi, and Monroe counties, as well as the Smoky Mountain regions of Cocke, Greene, Blount, and Sevier.
Residents should monitor local forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. Emergency kits, warm clothing, and backup heating sources are recommended in case of power outages.
Road crews are expected to treat highways, but delays and closures remain possible. Stay updated on road conditions through local transportation departments.
Be prepared and stay safe as this winter storm brings heavy snow and strong winds to East Tennessee.
