Redding, CA – Winter storm warnings have been issued across Northern California’s higher elevations, with heavy snow expected from 4 p.m. Sunday through 10 p.m. Monday. Areas above 3,000 feet in Western Siskiyou County could see snowfall totals between 6 and 18 inches, creating hazardous travel conditions.
According to the National Weather Service, the heaviest snow is expected in mountain passes and higher terrain. Wind gusts of up to 40 mph may reduce visibility, compounding travel difficulties. Key affected areas include highways 97 and 3, as well as regions near Callahan, Etna, and Happy Camp. Snow levels are predicted to drop rapidly Sunday evening to around 3,000 feet and remain low through Monday evening.
Travelers should prepare for potentially impossible road conditions. Emergency kits with food, water, and flashlights are recommended for those venturing into the impacted areas. Residents are urged to monitor road updates via QuickMap.
