Portland, OR – A winter storm warning is in effect for the Oregon Cascades, with heavy snowfall expected from 10 a.m. Sunday through 10 p.m. Monday. Areas above 2,500 feet, including Santiam Pass, Willamette Pass, and Government Camp, may see snow accumulations of 10 to 20 inches, while lower elevations like La Pine and Sunriver could receive 4 to 8 inches.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall will begin Saturday evening, briefly turning to rain on Sunday before intensifying into heavy snow late Sunday afternoon. Gusty winds of up to 35 mph may create blowing snow and reduced visibility, making travel hazardous along major mountain passes.
Travelers are strongly encouraged to delay plans until conditions improve. For those who must travel, a winter storm kit, including tire chains, blankets, and emergency supplies, is recommended. Recreational backcountry activities are discouraged due to avalanche and safety risks.
