Baltimore, MD – A powerful winter storm is set to impact parts of Maryland and West Virginia starting early Wednesday morning. Heavy snow and high winds are expected to create dangerous travel conditions and possible power outages.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm will bring 4 to 8 inches of snow, with the heaviest accumulations in higher elevations. Winds could gust up to 50 mph, reducing visibility to less than 1/4 mile at times. The Winter Storm Warning remains in effect from 1 a.m. Wednesday until 4 a.m. Thursday.

Rain will transition to snow by early Wednesday, with snowfall rates of 1 inch per hour possible. Travel may become hazardous, especially on roads in Garrett County, MD, and Western Grant and Pendleton Counties, WV. Officials advise keeping emergency supplies in vehicles.

The combination of snow and strong winds could damage tree limbs and disrupt power lines. Residents are urged to prepare for potential outages and check local road conditions before traveling.
