Seattle, WA – A winter storm warning remains in effect for the West Slopes of the North Cascades and Central Cascades, including North Central Washington, with heavy snow and ice expected through Sunday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, elevations above 3,000 feet in the Cascades are forecast to receive 9 to 14 inches of snow by 4 p.m. Sunday, with wind gusts up to 40 mph creating hazardous conditions. In Western Chelan County, areas such as Holden Village, Stehekin, and Stevens Pass will see freezing rain and light snow early Saturday, with ice accumulations up to a quarter of an inch before heavier snow begins Saturday night. Total snow accumulations could reach up to 12 inches in those areas.
Snoqualmie Pass is expected to receive 6 to 10 inches of snow, with temperatures dropping below freezing later Sunday morning. Roads, bridges, and overpasses throughout the region may become slick and hazardous.
Travelers in North Central Washington and the Cascades are advised to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for potential power outages. Emergency kits with flashlights, food, and water are strongly recommended. For updated road conditions, visit Washington State Department of Transportation.
