Grand Rapids, MI – Heavy snow and strong winds are expected to continue through Thursday evening across portions of west-central and southwest Michigan, as a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 1 a.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Grand Rapids, additional snow accumulations could reach up to 8 inches, with wind gusts as high as 45 mph. Impacted areas include Grand Rapids, Muskegon, Kalamazoo, Holland, and surrounding communities.

Travel conditions are likely to be hazardous, with visibility potentially dropping below 1/4 mile due to blowing and falling snow. The NWS warns that road conditions could change rapidly in areas of lake-effect snow, and the morning and evening commutes are expected to be difficult. Gusty winds may also cause sporadic power outages by bringing down tree limbs and power lines.

Residents are urged to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep emergency supplies such as a flashlight, food, and water in their vehicles if they must venture out.

Be prepared for rapidly shifting weather and visibility conditions, especially in areas experiencing lake-effect snow.
