Albany, NY – Upstate New York remains under a Winter Storm Warning as heavy snow continues to blanket the region, with up to 8 additional inches expected by early Friday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Albany, the warning affects Hamilton, Northern Fulton, and Northern Herkimer Counties, including areas such as Old Forge, Caroga Lake, and Long Lake. The advisory, issued early Thursday, warns of snowfall rates of up to one inch per hour through late tonight, with wind gusts reaching up to 40 mph.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution, as blowing snow is expected to reduce visibility significantly, creating hazardous road conditions. Officials recommend carrying emergency supplies, including flashlights, food, and water, for those needing to travel.

The warning is set to expire at 4 a.m. Friday. Residents are encouraged to check road conditions via the state’s 511 system and delay travel if possible.

Stay tuned for further updates as the storm progresses.
