Garrett, MD – A winter storm warning remains in effect for parts of Maryland and West Virginia until 7 a.m. Monday. Heavy mixed precipitation, including snow and ice, is expected to create dangerous conditions.

According to the National Weather Service, up to three inches of snow and sleet may accumulate, along with ice buildup of up to a quarter-inch. Higher ridge faces in Garrett, Allegany, and Mineral counties could see ice totals near four-tenths of an inch.

Freezing rain is likely to persist through the evening, with slick roads, bridges, and overpasses posing hazards for Monday’s morning commute. Power outages are also expected as ice weighs down power lines.

Travelers are urged to stay off the roads if possible. If travel is unavoidable, carry emergency supplies like a flashlight, food, and water. For the latest road conditions, dial 511.

Residents should prepare for potential delays and monitor local updates. Be sure to check on neighbors, especially the elderly, during this storm.
