Portland, OR — A winter storm warning is in effect for the Oregon Cascades, with heavy snow expected through Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service reports snowfall could total up to 20 inches in areas above 4,000 feet. Key impacted regions include Government Camp, Santiam Pass, and Willamette Pass. Snow accumulations between 3,000 and 4,000 feet may range from 4 to 10 inches.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm begins at 8 p.m. Sunday and will persist until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Hazardous road conditions could disrupt travel, particularly during Monday’s morning and evening commutes. Authorities advise drivers to avoid travel or prepare for delays by carrying chains and emergency supplies.

The warning also highlights backcountry safety risks. Recreationists are urged to postpone trips, as avalanche conditions and exposure risks are high.

Residents using generators should keep them outside to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. Pedestrians are reminded to use caution on icy surfaces.
