Pendleton, OR – A winter storm warning is in effect for the Oregon Cascades and the Ochoco-John Day Highlands, with heavy snow expected through Tuesday morning. The National Weather Service (NWS) reports snow accumulations ranging from 6 to 16 inches, with locally heavier amounts at higher peaks and crests.

According to the NWS Pendleton office, the warning will remain active until 10 a.m. Tuesday. Snowfall rates will increase overnight, significantly reducing visibility and creating hazardous driving conditions, especially above 4,000 feet. Travelers are advised to check road conditions before heading out and to carry winter storm kits, including tire chains, blankets, water, and flashlights.

The affected areas include cities such as Prairie City, Brothers, Seneca, and Paulina. Travel delays are likely, with slick roadways and downed trees posing risks. Officials recommend delaying all non-essential travel during the storm.

Residents in the region should prepare for power outages and avoid downed power lines. For the latest updates, visit local weather websites and check road conditions via WSDOT or TripCheck.
