Gray, ME – Residents across northern Maine and New Hampshire are facing dangerous winter weather today as a storm brings snow, ice, and high winds to the region.
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory until 7 p.m. for areas including Northern Oxford, Franklin, and Somerset Counties in Maine, as well as Northern and Southern Coos Counties in New Hampshire. Accumulations of 2 to 6 inches of snow are expected, with higher amounts in elevations above 2,500 feet.
According to the advisory, heavy snowbands may lead to rapid accumulation, creating treacherous travel conditions. Winds will cause snow to drift, reducing visibility to near zero in open areas. Southern regions may also experience light freezing rain or drizzle during the morning hours.
Officials urge drivers to delay travel when possible and use extreme caution. Untreated roads may become icy, and snow-covered roads will make commutes hazardous. Travelers can monitor road conditions at newengland511.org.
