Grand Junction, CO – A powerful winter storm is set to impact portions of Colorado and Utah, bringing heavy snowfall, strong winds, and hazardous travel conditions through Friday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Grand Junction, a Winter Storm Warning is in effect from Wednesday evening through 11 PM MST Friday for the Northwest and Southwest San Juan Mountains, Elkhead and Park Mountains, and the Flat Tops in Colorado. These areas, including Telluride, Ouray, Silverton, Rico, and Hesperus, are expected to receive between 10 to 20 inches of snow, with wind gusts reaching 60 mph.

In Utah, the Eastern Uinta Mountains, including Manila and Dutch John, will also be under a Winter Storm Warning from 5 PM Wednesday to 5 PM MST Friday. Snowfall accumulations in higher elevations above 7,000 feet are expected to reach 10 to 20 inches, with wind gusts of up to 45 mph.

Travel could become treacherous, especially on mountain passes, bridges, and overpasses, where conditions may turn icy and visibility could be significantly reduced. The National Weather Service warns that road closures and delays are possible, especially during Wednesday evening and Thursday morning commutes. Strong winds could also lead to tree damage and isolated power outages.

Residents and travelers are urged to prepare for winter conditions, avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas, and monitor weather updates. Emergency supplies, including extra food, water, and warm clothing, are recommended for those venturing into high-elevation regions.
