Memphis, TN – A severe winter storm is set to impact West Tennessee starting Thursday evening, bringing heavy snow and hazardous travel conditions. Local residents should prepare for 3-6 inches of snow, according to the National Weather Service.

The winter storm warning is in effect from Thursday evening through late Friday night. Officials caution that roads, especially major routes like the I-40 corridor, will become slick and hazardous. Visibility could drop significantly, making travel conditions dangerous or impossible during peak snowfall hours. The storm is likely to cause widespread disruptions to Friday morning commutes and other daily activities.

Snowfall is expected to begin late Thursday night and continue through much of Friday, with the heaviest accumulation occurring during the day Friday. Daytime highs will hover near 34°F, with temperatures dropping below freezing at night. Wind gusts may exacerbate blowing snow, further reducing visibility on already hazardous roads.

Residents are advised to avoid travel if possible, ensure their vehicles are winter-ready, and stock up on essential supplies. If travel is unavoidable, exercise caution, maintain extra following distance, and carry an emergency kit.

Looking ahead, conditions are expected to improve by Saturday as skies clear and temperatures climb to 34°F. Sunday and Monday will bring mostly sunny skies with daytime highs near 38°F. Despite the weekend improvement, freezing overnight temperatures may extend icy conditions.
