Huntsville, AL – Bitter cold weather is sweeping through the Tennessee Valley tonight, with wind chills dropping as low as -2°F. Residents are urged to take precautions as frostbite and hypothermia remain serious risks through Thursday morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Huntsville, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 9 a.m. Thursday. Temperatures will hover in the single digits overnight, with wind chill values making conditions feel even colder. Officials advise limiting outdoor activity, bundling up with multiple layers, and checking on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

The advisory covers areas along the I-65 corridor, including Huntsville, Florence, and Cullman, extending into parts of Tennessee. With lows reaching 6°F and clear skies, the frigid air poses challenges for those without adequate heating or shelter.

Looking ahead, Thursday will bring some relief with sunny skies and a high of 35°F, but overnight lows will dip back to 20°F. The cold snap continues into the weekend, with Friday and Saturday offering highs in the upper 30s to mid-40s under mostly sunny skies.

Residents should ensure portable heaters are used safely, avoiding indoor use of grills or generators to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning. Stay informed by following updates from the National Weather Service for any changes to local advisories.

Bundle up, and keep warm as the Tennessee Valley endures another night of freezing conditions.
