Winnipeg Robbery: Man Arrested After Alleged Assault and Knife Threats

Winnipeg, MB – A Winnipeg man was arrested Tuesday night following an alleged robbery and assault involving a weapon in the city’s downtown area.

The incident occurred on March 19, 2025, at approximately 10:35 p.m. in the 300 block of Edmonton Street. According to the Winnipeg Police Service, a man in his 60s was approached by an unknown suspect who asked for a cigarette. When the victim said he did not have one, the suspect initially walked away but then allegedly returned and began assaulting him.

A second victim, a man in his 50s, attempted to intervene but was allegedly threatened with a knife. The suspect then fled the scene, prompting a call to the police.

Officers arrived and spoke with the victims before spotting the suspect nearby on Kennedy Street. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Joshua Michael Courchene of Winnipeg. He has been charged with robbery, uttering threats causing death or bodily harm, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon.

The initial victim sustained minor injuries but declined medical treatment. Courchene remains in custody as the investigation continues.
