Winnipeg, MB –A 28-year-old man is in custody after allegedly threatening a woman with a shotgun during an early morning confrontation at a Warde Avenue apartment complex, police said.

According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers responded just after 2 a.m. on November 29, 2025, to the 1500 block of Warde Avenue following reports of a woman being threatened with a firearm.

Upon arrival, officers found a 24-year-old woman in the lobby who told police she had gone to an apartment to meet a friend when an argument broke out. Police say a man at the scene allegedly pulled out a shotgun and threatened her before she fled and called for help.

With assistance from the Tactical Support Team, officers arrested a man and a woman from the suite around 2:30 a.m. No injuries were reported. Later, a search warrant uncovered an unloaded Winchester 12-gauge shotgun.

Police identified the suspect as Brennan David Cochrane, 28, who faces several charges, including possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, using a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence, and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm.

Cochrane was detained in custody, while a 23-year-old woman was released without charge. The Major Crimes Unit continues to investigate.
