Winnipeg, MB – A late-night disturbance at a Henderson Highway restaurant has led to the arrest of a 31-year-old man after police say he allegedly threatened a patron with a knife.
According to the Winnipeg Police Service, officers responded to the 1400 block of Henderson Highway just before 11:30 p.m. on Friday for reports of an assault involving a weapon. Investigators say the suspect had entered the restaurant earlier that evening and became involved in a dispute with another customer while paying a bill.
Police allege the man produced a knife during the confrontation and held it to the patron’s throat before being pushed away. The suspect then left the restaurant, reportedly escorted out by one of the victim’s friends.
The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention, authorities said.
The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation following the incident. On Wednesday at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers with the Winnipeg Police Service Foot Patrol Unit located the suspect in the 500 block of Sargent Avenue and took him into custody without incident.
The 31-year-old man is now facing charges of assault with a weapon and two counts of possession of a weapon. He was later released on an undertaking, according to police.
Authorities have not released additional details about the individuals involved. The investigation remains ongoing.
