Wilmington, Ohio – Several chances for snow are expected across parts of Ohio this week, with the most impactful snowfall likely Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service Wilmington office.
Forecasters report that light snow showers are expected today, with snowfall amounts generally less than a half inch. While accumulations will be minor, cold temperatures may allow slick spots to develop on untreated roads, especially during early morning and nighttime hours.
The next and more significant snow chance arrives Tuesday into Tuesday evening, when accumulating snowfall of 2 to 3 inches will be possible. The National Weather Service notes that the highest totals are expected south of Interstate 70, affecting communities near Columbus, Springfield, Dayton, and Wilmington. Roads along I-70, I-71, and U.S. Route 35 could become slick as snow accumulates during the day and evening.
Additional snow showers are expected Friday into Friday night, though amounts with this round are expected to be lighter. Even so, forecasters caution that cold ground temperatures could again lead to hazardous travel conditions, particularly on bridges, overpasses, and secondary roads.
Temperatures throughout the week are forecast to remain below normal, despite being slightly warmer than last week. Many locations will see daytime highs near or just above freezing, with overnight lows frequently dropping into the teens and 20s. This prolonged cold will limit melting between snow events and allow icy patches to persist.
The National Weather Service emphasized that repeated snow chances, even with modest totals, can compound travel impacts over time.
This forecast may be especially relevant for commuters, students, delivery drivers, and shift workers traveling during snow and refreeze periods.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts, plan for extra travel time, and use caution when driving during snow events later this week.
