Wilmington, N.C. – Morning thunderstorms rolled along the Carolina coast Wednesday from Myrtle Beach to Surf City, with scattered storms expected to redevelop across southeastern North Carolina this afternoon and evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington, rain chances remain elevated throughout the day, with 40% to 60% probabilities in cities like Florence, Lumberton, and Wilmington. Storms may bring localized downpours, lightning, and brief gusty winds, especially after 2 p.m.

Highs will reach into the upper 80s across much of the region, including 87°F in both Florence and Lumberton. Coastal areas like North Myrtle Beach and Wilmington will be slightly cooler, topping out in the low to mid-80s. Drivers along U.S. Highway 17 and I-95 should remain alert for slick roads and reduced visibility during passing storms.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, check for weather alerts, and avoid flooded roadways. With storms likely to continue into the evening, outdoor activities and commutes may be disrupted through tonight.

Showers are expected to taper off overnight, but another round of unsettled weather could arrive by the weekend.
