Wilmington, NC – A sharp drop in temperatures is expected across southeastern North Carolina as a cold front arrives Tuesday night. Residents and commuters along U.S. 17 and other local roads should prepare for subfreezing conditions, with wind chills dipping below 15 degrees by early Wednesday.

According to the National Weather Service, high temperatures Tuesday will reach around 50 degrees before plummeting to the low 20s overnight. Winds from the northwest at 10 mph could make it feel even colder, especially during late-night and early-morning hours.

The cold front will bring dry conditions, ensuring clear skies throughout the week. Daytime highs Wednesday and Thursday are forecast to remain in the mid-40s and low 50s, with overnight lows hovering near 20 degrees. Sunshine will dominate much of the forecast, providing some relief during daylight hours.

Drivers on major routes, including U.S. 74 and U.S. 17, should exercise caution as icy patches may develop in shaded areas. For outdoor workers and early risers, bundling up in layers and limiting exposure to the cold will be essential.

Warmer conditions are expected by Friday, with highs climbing to the mid-50s. However, rain showers could return by Saturday evening.
