Charleston, WV – An arctic blast is expected to bring frigid temperatures and hazardous wind chills to West Virginia starting Tuesday. Residents are urged to take precautions as wind chills could drop below zero, posing serious health risks such as frostbite and hypothermia.

According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Charleston, wind chills are expected to fall as low as -20 degrees in higher elevations, with sub-zero conditions likely across much of the state. The advisory, in effect from early Tuesday morning through Wednesday afternoon, highlights the importance of limiting outdoor activity, dressing appropriately, and bringing pets indoors.

The cold front will also bring a slight chance of snow showers, with temperatures struggling to rise above the mid-20s on Tuesday. Overnight lows will plunge to single digits. Wednesday will see clear skies but continued cold, with highs around 24 degrees.

Looking ahead, Thursday offers some relief with highs near 36 degrees, though snow showers remain a possibility. By Friday, temperatures will climb into the mid-40s, signaling a brief warm-up before rain returns over the weekend.

Motorists on major routes, including Interstate 64 and US-119, should remain cautious as icy conditions may develop during overnight hours. The NWS advises checking weather.gov for updates and ensuring vehicles are winter-ready.
