Willowbrook, Ill. — On June 11, the Willowbrook Police Department announced it had completed its first Citizens Police Academy

The academy lasted six weeks, and community members learned about the officers’ roles and responsibilities in modern policing. The program ran from April 16 until May 21 on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. The academy was free for all community members ages 18 and older but limited to 12 participants.

Each week of the program was focused on different areas of police work, such as patrol duties, criminal investigations and community policing. Community members participated in different exercises on crime scene investigations and traffic stops among other activities. Guest speakers visited to talk about specialized units. Willowbrook Police specifically mentioned the Oak Brook Police Department’s presentation on K-9s and the Village of Hinsdale Police Department’s presentation on drones.

The Willowbrook Police Department will announce when registration opens for the 2026 Citizens Police Academy in the coming fall or winter.
