Williston, ND – A fatal head-on crash in Williams County Saturday afternoon left an 18-year-old driver dead and another man injured near the Williston area.

According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 4:48 p.m. on May 2 on 124th Avenue Northwest near 53rd Street Northwest. Authorities say a 2004 Dodge Dakota was traveling southbound when it crested a hill in the wrong lane at a high rate of speed.

Investigators report that a northbound 2023 Ford F-150 was approaching at the same time, and the two vehicles collided head-on. The driver of the Dodge, identified as an 18-year-old male from Epping, sustained fatal injuries and died at the scene. Officials noted he was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Ford, a 42-year-old man from Williston, suffered minor injuries. He was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Emergency crews from the North Dakota State Patrol, Williams County Sheriff’s Office, Williston Ambulance, and Williston Rural Fire responded to the scene.

Road conditions were described as gravel with normal driving conditions, and the weather was reported as sunny at the time of the crash.

According to authorities, no charges have been filed as the crash remains under investigation. Officials continue to examine contributing factors, including speed and lane positioning at the time of impact.

The incident marks another fatal crash in western North Dakota, where rural roads and high speeds can increase the risk of severe collisions.
