Will County, IL – Social Media Post Sparks Violence, Leading to Multiple Arrests

Will County, IL – A social media post led to a violent confrontation and multiple arrests in Joliet on February 17, 2024. 

According to, Joliet Police reports, officers responded to a disturbance involving a firearm around 9:40 a.m. near Fourth Avenue and Richards Street. The incident, which started from an argument over a social media post, escalated into a physical altercation involving several individuals and a firearm.

Jacob Pitts, 19, and a 16-year-old male were among those allegedly involved in the incident. Pitts allegedly threatened a victim with a handgun during the confrontation. Both Pitts and the teenager, along with two 17-year-old females, were arrested on charges ranging from Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon to Obstructing a Peace Officer. Juan Ramos-Flores, 48, was also arrested for obstructing and resisting officers but was not involved in the initial dispute. This incident highlights the potential for social media conflicts to escalate into real-world violence.
