Chicago, IL – Severe thunderstorms are expected south of Interstate 80 on Thursday, with the National Weather Service predicting warm and humid conditions throughout the region.
According to the US National Weather Service, temperatures on Wednesday and Thursday are forecasted to climb into the mid-80s to lower 90s. Thunderstorms are likely to develop early Thursday morning across northwest Illinois, expanding across the area later in the day. The highest risk for severe weather is anticipated south of I-80 on Thursday afternoon and evening, where storms may become strong to severe.
The forecast indicates a chance for showers or sprinkles Tuesday afternoon into the evening. Cooler conditions are expected near Lake Michigan, with highs ranging from 74 to 78 degrees and lows between 59 and 64 degrees. Wednesday will bring significantly warmer temperatures, reaching between 85 and 90 degrees, with a low from 66 to 72 degrees.
Thursday’s high temperatures will span from 86 to 92 degrees, with a 20-40% chance of strong to severe thunderstorms in the evening. Friday will see highs from 77 to 86 degrees, with a lower chance of rain and lows between 61 and 66 degrees.
Hot and humid conditions are expected to persist into early next week, marking the beginning of a warm summer spell for the region.
