New Lenox, IL – A second man has been arrested in connection with an attempted armed robbery at the AT&T store in New Lenox earlier this month, according to police.
On September 1, at about 5:37 p.m., two masked men wearing construction clothing entered the AT&T store on East Lincoln Highway, police said. One suspect allegedly displayed a handgun and forced an employee into a back room to open the safe. When the safe could not be opened, police say the suspect struck the employee in the head with the firearm, causing minor injuries. The men then fled the scene without taking any property.
According to the New Lenox Police Department, one suspect, Virgil Holland, had already been arrested. Detectives continued their investigation and identified the second suspect as 31-year-old Matthew D. Moore of Chicago. Investigators reportedly linked Moore to the crime through security video and the purchase of gloves seen in the footage.
Police said Moore was taken into custody on Thursday, September 25, and charged with Attempted Armed Robbery, a Class 1 felony, and Aggravated Unlawful Restraint, a Class 3 felony. He was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he awaits a pre-trial hearing.
The department thanked the Tinley Park Police, Cook County Sheriff’s Office, Chicago Police, and the FBI for their assistance in the investigation.
