San Antonio, TX – Nearly all of South and Central Texas are under Red Flag Warnings today (Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2025) as dry, windy post-frontal conditions create a critical wildfire threat from the Hill Country to the Gulf Coast.
According to the National Weather Service offices in Austin/San Antonio, Houston/Galveston, Corpus Christi, and Brownsville, northwest winds of 15–30 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and relative humidity values as low as 12–15% will make outdoor burning extremely dangerous through early evening.
The warnings cover a broad swath of Texas, including Bandera, Bexar, Medina, Guadalupe, Wharton, Victoria, and Hidalgo Counties, as well as the Coastal Plains, Rio Grande Valley, and Gulf barrier islands. The threat extends through 7 p.m. CDT Wednesday, with the most intense conditions expected during the afternoon.
Officials warn that any fires that develop could spread rapidly and be very difficult to control, urging residents to:
- Avoid all outdoor burning or open flames.
- Secure trailer chains and avoid sparks from vehicles or machinery.
- Follow local burn bans and report any wildfires immediately.
While temperatures remain mild—mainly in the 70s—the combination of dry fuels, gusty winds, and low humidity has produced a rare statewide fire risk event.
