Kankakee, IL – Extensive power outages are impacting Northern Illinois, leaving a significant number of residents without electricity. As of 6:54 AM Tuesday, ComEd reported that 211,913 customers are affected across multiple areas.

The outages were caused by severe storms that moved through the area last night, disrupting airports, interstates, trains, and refineries. However, the main concern remains the widespread power outages and the significant percentage of residents affected.

According to ComEd, 100% of customers in Bonfield and nearly 95% in Coal City are experiencing outages. In Bradley, 23% of residents are affected, while Braidwood has less than 5% without power. In East Hazel Crest, 65% of residents are without power, with 51% in Hazel Crest and 55% in Harvey. Nearly the entire community of Herscher is impacted. Joliet Township reports 67% outages, while Joliet itself has 35% affected, equating to about 20,000 residents. Kankakee has 16% of its customers affected, with Kankakee Township at 21%.

Other affected areas include Kirkland (99%), Lakewood Shores (100%), New Lenox (20%), New Lenox Township (40%), Peotone Township (48%), South Holland (53%), Vermilion Township (nearly 100%), and Villa Park, where about 580 residents are affected.
