Kansas City, MO – Residents in northwestern and north-central Missouri are under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch this morning as the NWS Storm Prediction Center warns of potential damaging winds and large hail.
According to the NWS Storm Prediction Center, the watch is effective from 7:10 AM to 1:00 PM CDT. Clusters of strong-severe thunderstorms are expected to move across the area, bringing severe gusts and isolated large hail up to 2 inches in diameter. The affected area spans approximately 45 miles north and south of a line from 25 miles west-northwest of Leavenworth, KS, to 55 miles southeast of Chillicothe, MO.
The primary threats include scattered damaging winds and isolated significant gusts up to 75 mph. The NWS advises residents to remain alert for updates and take necessary precautions, as severe thunderstorms can produce tornadoes. Aviation warnings have also been issued, with extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts up to 65 knots expected.
