Wichita, Kansas – A pronounced warming trend is underway across Kansas, bringing a taste of spring as temperatures climb steadily through the weekend and surge into the 60s early next week.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, highs today will range from the mid 40s to upper 50s across south-central Kansas, with Wichita reaching the upper 40s. Sunshine and light winds will help temperatures rebound after colder overnight lows, setting the stage for even warmer conditions ahead.
Sunday delivers a noticeable jump, with afternoon highs climbing into the lower to mid 60s across much of the region. Cities including Hutchinson, Salina, and Winfield are expected to see highs well above seasonal averages, while Wichita pushes into the lower 60s under partly cloudy skies. Dry conditions will continue, keeping travel and outdoor plans largely unaffected.
The warming trend peaks Monday and Tuesday as widespread highs reach the low to upper 60s, with some locations approaching the upper 60s during the warmest afternoons. These readings are well above normal for early January and mark a sharp shift from recent winter chill.
Residents should be mindful of increased fire danger potential during warmer, drier afternoons, especially in open and grassy areas. While no immediate hazards are expected, conditions may warrant caution.
The mild pattern is expected to hold into midweek, with additional updates from forecasters as the extended outlook becomes clearer.
