Wichita, Kan. – After another sweltering day Tuesday with highs near 97 degrees, Kansas will finally begin to see a break from the late-summer heat as temperatures trend closer to normal through the end of the week. A 40% chance of afternoon storms could provide brief relief, though the National Weather Service in Wichita warns that most areas will remain hot and humid until midweek.
According to the Weather Service, highs will step down slowly, reaching the lower 90s Wednesday and Thursday before dipping into the upper 80s by Friday. Lows each night will sit in the upper 60s, keeping overnight conditions warm but less oppressive than recent days.
Residents across central and southern Kansas, including Wichita, Hutchinson, and Salina, can expect partly cloudy skies through Friday with only spotty rain chances. The best chance for precipitation comes Saturday when isolated thunderstorms are likely to develop as a cooler air mass pushes in.
Travelers and outdoor workers should remain cautious Tuesday afternoon, when heat indices may briefly top 100 degrees. Staying hydrated and limiting prolonged time outside remains important until temperatures ease later in the week.
Conditions are expected to trend cooler into the weekend, with the possibility of more widespread rain returning.
