Wichita, Kansas – A small chance of severe weather could threaten parts of central and south-central Kansas late Sunday as isolated storms develop across the region.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storms may bring damaging winds, large hail, and a minimal tornado risk between 5 and 10 p.m. Sunday. Areas including Wichita, Hutchinson, Winfield, and Pratt could see brief but intense conditions, although most locations are expected to remain storm-free.
Residents along U.S. Route 54 and Interstate 135 should remain alert for rapidly changing weather, especially during the evening commute. Emergency officials recommend securing outdoor objects and monitoring weather updates in case warnings are issued.
While the risk is low, isolated severe storms can still cause localized damage. Keeping mobile devices charged and having a safe shelter plan are advised precautions. Sunday’s system resembles similar early spring events seen in previous years, where a few strong cells briefly intensified before dissipating overnight.
The severe weather threat is expected to end by late Sunday night, but residents should stay tuned for any updates if conditions change.
