Wheaton, IL – A structure fire broke out in the 600 block of Polo Drive in Wheaton early Tuesday morning, sending multiple fire departments to the scene. The fire, reported at approximately 11:20 a.m., caused heavy smoke to billow from the garage and attic of the vacant home.
According to the Wheaton Fire Department, crews were able to bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes. A portion of Roosevelt Road was shut down for approximately two hours to accommodate fire trucks and other equipment. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was treated at the scene.
Multiple local agencies were called to assist, including the Wheaton Police Department, the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office, and the Geneva, Lombard, and West Suburban Fire Rescue Alliance departments.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building was subsequently turned over to the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office for further handling.
