Johnstown, PA – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a High Wind Watch for western Pennsylvania, including Bedford, Blair, Cambria, Clearfield, and Somerset Counties, in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning.

Forecasters expect west winds of 20 to 30 mph, with gusts reaching up to 60 mph at times. The strongest gusts are likely Wednesday evening through early Thursday, potentially causing tree damage, downed power lines, and travel hazards—especially for high-profile vehicles along Interstate 99 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

According to the National Weather Service, these winds could lead to scattered to widespread power outages and flying debris, particularly in open areas and higher elevations across the Allegheny Plateau.

Officials urge residents to secure outdoor items, avoid unnecessary travel during peak gusts, and prepare for possible power disruptions by charging electronic devices and keeping flashlights on hand.

Conditions are expected to gradually improve by Thursday morning as the storm system exits the region, but cleanup efforts may continue into the day.
